About

St.Patrick's Parish dates back to 1854 when Fr Nickolds OP of Holy Cross built a school chapel dedicated to St.Patrick in Royal East Street. This school chapel continued to be served by the Dominicans until 1894 when the Mission was handed over to the Bishop of Nottingham and Fr. Hawkins became the first Parish Priest.

In July 1920 Fr. Holland who was then Parish Priest purchased land earmarked for a chapel of ease dedicated to Our Lady in Canon Street and later the same year a house was bought to serve as a presbytery. This Chapel of Ease was opened in August 1922 and in 1927 Fr Bernard George became Priest and served the Parish for twenty years. He was responsible for the building of St.Patrick's School. The school in Royal East Street closed in 1937 and moved to Harrison Road and the Parish itself in Royal East Street closed in 1940. The Parish then became known as Our Lady and St.Patrick (in Moira Street).
